Victory Over Self, Part 3 – 02/22/11

Share

This week we continued in our study of having victory over self. Our topic was self-protection. We have legitimate, God-given needs to feel emotionally safe, loved and connected to. Often, when we are sinned against (or even if we perceive that we have been sinned against), we respond sinfully. This leads to a vicious cycle of sin and wounding. Unless we are trained to take our thoughts and emotions captive we most likely will erect walls of self-protection. Some of the obstacles we put in place in our attempts to self-protect are: Lies, strongholds, vows, judgments and soul ties. We must seek the Lord asking Him to reveal our sin habits in these areas so that we can let Him bring down the walls. We must build our trust so that we can then allow Him to do the job of protecting our hearts. We can do this by meditating on the truths of God’s character in those places where we have previously sought to self-protect. God is trustworthy and we are safe with Him no matter if we FEEL it or not. Our emotions will catch up to God’s truth, but often they are the last to get in line.

Remember that we are not meeting as a class on March 1 due to Mission’s Week at Covenant. BUT, we are not “off”. The T&T from this past Tuesday was very hefty and you would greatly benefit by spending some quality time working on it. If you have questions, need help or prayer make sure to contact your group leader or Kathy/Debbie if you are not in a group.
