Counting on God, Part 15 – 03/13/12

This week we continued to look at strongholds being reminded that in 2 Sam. 5:6-9 David showed us that the most effective way to battle a stronghold is to penetrate the core and battle from the inside out. Kathy illustrated the anatomy of a stronghold (fruit, root, nut/seed) showing us that the visible problem is usually not the real problem. We discussed entry points for strongholds and how we reinforce them by attempting to get our legitimate needs of love, worth/significance, and security/acceptance/belonging met in illegitimate ways. The secondary gain we experience from these behaviors locks us into sinful patterns. Kathy then shared a personal example and challenged us to begin looking for barren places and bitter fruit which might be the result of a stronghold, and to then ask the Lord to identify the components of it in our lives. She reminded us of the promise God gives us in 1 Cor. 10:13, that we have a way of escape. We need to ASK God and seek the Lord until He comes.
